Contra Café has received a great deal of correspondence from our fans. We have provided some examples for your enjoyment...

I just had my first cup of your coffee, and I can honestly say I love it. It's not bitter and acidic like most coffees, and my wife can even drink it black, which can't be said about others. I'm telling every coffee drinker I know, and will take a bag to a local coffee shop to see if they will try it out. Aside from the quality, I really admire the Contras and am glad to support them, it's just too bad I can only have two cups a day!
Sincerely,
Chris W.

Keep up the good work. I have passed your web site on to my circle. v/r,

Dear Sir

Your article on Contra Cafe was heaven sent and let me tell you why. About a month ago I became aware, through a friend, of a restaurant in Providence, Rhode Island which has a highly controversial name and theme: The Cuban Revolution. You do not need to travel all the way north, just take a look at their website: thecubanrevolution.com. Being a cuban exile, my blood boiled.

The rabid left expresses outrage at the naming of a coffee named after freedom fighters but, would they express the same outrage at a restaurant named after a gang of murders? This comparison is not political commentary; it is a documented fact that would find agreement with freedom loving people.

Sincerely
Helio R.

If we stand for Democratic beliefs and are Anti-Communist in the US then no-one should question your motives. I hope your company prospers greatly.
Best Regards & Continue the Good Work.

Dear Sirs:

I salute you. I work in Central America including Nicaragua with organizations that provide Microenterprise help to families to help them lift themselves up by their own bootstraps. We provide training and small loans to help struggling entrepreneurs build businesses that allow them to feed their familles, provide healthcare, education and most importantly hope for the future. Typically a families income is multiplied by 10 with the first loan cycle. They build a new future for themselves by their own hard work. None of this is possible in a political environment that suppresses it people such as Marxists or generic despots. I have seen the devastation caused by war and oppressive governments. I have also seen what free enterprise can do to liberate people from poverty and desperation.

I am ordering 10 pounds of coffee and will use it to spread the word to all the coffee lovers I know.

ALL politics and political challenges boil down to economics - Viva free enterprise!

Drew S.

Hi Tom,

As I write, I'm sipping Contra Caf@eacute; coffee for the first time. Very good! And the shirt is of good cotton quality, not that thin weird crap you sometimes get from businesses not as classy as yours!

The timing of the coffee's arrival is great: Wolfgang Welsch, the former East German dissident whom I told you was my first (and only other) e-mail interviewee, is visiting Vienna and I am having dinner with him tomorrow night. I wanted to get him a little gift, and then the coffee arrived this morning. What better gift for a freedom fighter from this side of the Atlantic?

Seriously, I think it's really cool and it gives me a buzz: a guy who spent several years in a communist prison and then who later smuggled out over 100 people from behind the Iron Curtain will now be getting some coffee grown by anti-communist freedom fighters from Nicaragua. It's like "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" meets "the moral equivalent of our Founding Fathers." And little ole me in the middle. Good stuff.

Thanks, Tom,
Bill

Hi
Received the t-shirt today; my sister-in-law loves the coffee. Thanks
Ken H.

Tom,
Please continue my monthly shipments. We love the coffee...and the cause! Hope the article continues to bring you new business.
Mary D.

Good coffee for a good cause. Of course, they may need to go back into the freedom fighting business if Ortega's current schemes are successful...if so, I suppose I'll stop buying coffee and start sending arms. We'll get Ollie North out of retirement and put the band back together.
Cheers,
John

Hi Tom,

I have to say that these beans are BEAUTIFUL. They roast perfectly. I make a point to pour the green beans out on black paper to judge how carefully they have been controlled and handled. While there is still a bit of yak, goat, or llama fur in the beans which I actually like to see*, the beans are clean, of uniform size, and all worthy of roasting. Out of the two pounds I have roasted so far, I have only had to pull three or four beans out before I turned on the heat. With other vendor's beans I end up pulling many dozen, sometimes hundreds of rejects from two pounds. Your coffee is delicious. Keep it coming.

Let me know how business is going. Has anyone from my office placed an order with you? I gave all of the roasted coffee away to my colleagues, so I hope they have. If not, let me know, and I'll go poke some guys in the ribs.

-Jeff B.

*all the coffee I have ever purchased for roasting has contained some standard impurities. I like to see a bit of pack animal fur in the beans because it tells me that the beans have not been too far removed from the process of harvest, and it's easy to pick a bit of fur out before roasting. What I DON'T want to see is burlap, plastic burlap and dirt. Like I said, your beans are beautiful.

Tom and Ryan:

Hello! I just purchased a couple bags of coffee from your site! I think it is a great idea. I linked to it from blackfive.

I wanted to compliment you on your idea, and am wondering how well it is doing. I am so happy to support grassroots activism, and to help those who are trying to make their way in the world, through honest hard work and determination. A wonderful bonus is helping our troops. Who would not be glad to support such a concept?

I look forward to hearing from you!
Leslie W.
